Sept. 11 anniversary to be remembered

Twenty-five years ago, thousands of people were killed when terrorists flew planes into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.

Passengers of a third plane thwarted an attack and instead crashed in Pennsylvania. The events of Sept. 11, 2001 changed America.

Middleboro and Lakeville will pause to reflect and honor those who died in ceremonies on Sept. 11.

Middleboro will gather at 9 a.m. Sept. 11 at the central fire station, 125 North Main St.

Lakeville’s memorial will take place at 10 a.m. the fire station, 346 Bedford St.

Later in the day, The First Baptist Church of North Middleboro, 111 Plymouth St.,  will host the 25th Anniversary with a service of remembrance and prayer Friday, Sept. 11 at 6:30 p.m. in the church sanctuary. 

The service will consist of hymns and scripture, moments of prayer and the ringing of the church bell.

Lakeville described the event in words that will no doubt echo across all activities.

"We will come together to remember and honor the lives lost, the first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice and the courage and service that continue to inspire us.''
