Lakeville organization receives grant to help feed households in need

LAKEVILLE -- A Lakeville-based organization that provides fresh, locally grown food to households in need has received a state grant to support its efforts.

Farm and Community Collaborative, which works with Elliot Farm in Lakeville, received $55,686 for the purchase of a refrigerated hybrid vehicle.  The collaborative works to alleviate hunger by providing fresh, locally grown fruits, vegetables, dairy, eggs, and baked goods. 

The award was one of 72 grants recently announced by Gov. Maura Healey. The grants are provided through the Food Security Infrastructure Grant Program, administered by the Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources. 

 “No family should have to worry about where their next meal is coming from. Local food banks and community organizations are on the front lines of fighting hunger, and they are seeing more people asking for help,” Healey said. “These grants will help them purchase the refrigerators, kitchen equipment and delivery vehicles they need to get more fresh, healthy food to families across Massachusetts.”
