Richard S. “Dick” Cook, 88, of Plymouth, Taunton, and Middleborough, passed away on Thursday, September 3, 2026. He was the beloved husband of Mary G. (King) Cook. Born in Middleborough, he was the son of the late Roy B. and Muriel R. (Rounseville) Cook.
Dick was a 1956 graduate of Middleborough Memorial High School and a veteran of the US Air Force. He worked for 40 years as a telephone equipment installation technician, retiring in 2002 from Verizon. An avid mind, he loved completing the New York Times crossword puzzle daily and possessed a spirited competitive drive for games of all kinds, especially cribbage.
An accomplished handyman, Dick could fix just about anything. He especially enjoyed helping his family keep their homes in good repair and was always ready to lend a helping hand. He also cherished traveling and creating memories with his family and friends.
In addition to his wife and best friend of 66 years, Mary, he is survived by his children Richard Jr. (Lisa), Gregory (Lorri), Michael (Lauren), Christina Dumas, and Alison Fitzpatrick (James); twelve grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. He was the brother of Melodie R. Cook, the late Robert B. Cook, and the late Roy H. Cook.
Military Honors will be rendered on September 17, 2026 at 12:45 PM at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Connery Avenue in Bourne. All are welcome to attend. Visiting hours are omitted. To leave a message of condolence for the family, please visit www.oneillfuneral.com.
