Markey, Minogue, Auchincloss win big in Lakeville

LAKEVILLE -- Lakeville voters went along with their counterparts across the state in the handful of contested races on the primary election ballot Sept. 1.

Incumbent U.S. Senator Ed Markey had a strong showing, receiving 311 votes to his challenger Seth Moulton’s 213.

Markey, who was also the statewide winner, will face Republican John Deaton in the Nov. 3 final election.

Michael Minogue, the Republican candidate for governor, solidly defeated fellow GOP contender Brian Shortsleeve. Minogue received 556 votes to Shortsleeve’s 163.

Minogue, who was declared the winner statewide, will square off against Democratic Gov. Maura Healey in November.

U.S. Rep. JakeAuchincloss easily won the Democratic primary vote, with 372 votes. His challenger Jason Poulos received 133 votes.

Auchincloss, who was declared the districtwide winner soon after polls closed, will now face Thomas Stalcup, who ran unopposed on the Republican side, in the November election.

Three Republican contenders squared off for the County Commissioner seat. Anthony O’Brien defeated incumbent Sandra Wright by a 20-vote margin, receiving 278 votes to Wright’s 258. The third candidate, Korey Michael Welch, finished third with 83 votes.

The Democratic challenger, Rhonda Nyman, ran unopposed.

The night's closest race came in the Republican contest for state senate, where Manny Silva edged Gabriel "Boomer'' Amaral by 10 votes, with 323 votes to 313.

The winner will face incumbent Democrat Michael Rodrigues, who has served since 2011.
