Woman found in Long Pond identified
LAKEVILLE -- The woman whose body was located in Long Pond has been identified as Daisha Murphy, 25, of Brockton, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz has announced.
Freetown police received a 911 call at about 5:46 p.m. Tuesday June 30 from someone who said they had been boating on Long Pond in Lakeville and saw people riding on two jet skis, Cruz reported.
The caller reported that they saw a jet ski with two female riders tip over, and one of the riders did not resurface.
Lakeville Police, Massachusetts State Police, Freetown Police and the Environmental Police responded to the scene and could not locate the victim, Cruz said.
During the operation, Lakeville paramedics evaluated and treated a bystander, Lakeville Fire Chief Michael O'Brien said. The person did not require transportation to a hospital, the chief said.
At approximately 12:40 a.m. Wednesday July 1, the body of the victim was located about 125 yards from shore in five feet of water. She was not wearing a life jacket, Cruz said.
Her body was found by members of the Southeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Counci Marine Unit.
The investigation is active and ongoing, Cruz said.
