Middleboro seeks 'progressive' and 'collaborative' Town Manager
MIDDLEBORO -- Middleboro is seeking a “progressive, highly qualified and collaborative leader’’ to serve as its next town manager, according to the official job posting.
The listing, which has an application deadline of July 13, details the requirements for the successful candidate.
The person ultimately hired will replace former Town Manager Jay McGrail, who left earlier this year for a town administrator position in Harwich.
Former Police Chief Joseph Perkins has been serving in the role on an interim basis.
The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in public administration, business management or a closely related field, the posting reads.
A master’s degree is highly preferred, with a minimum of seven to 10 years of “progressive, successful experience as a town manager, town administrator or assistant manager/administrator,’’ according to the wording.
Equivalent senior leadership experience in a complex public sector, nonprofit or corporate environment will also be considered.
The town “seeks a proven leader with expertise in municipal finance and budget modeling’’ the listing states.
The ideal candidate would have solid knowledge of Massachusetts procurement laws, which relate to purchasing regulations. Having a Massachusetts Certified Public Purchasing Official certification would be considered a plus.
This certification recognizes that the individual has mastered state purchasing laws and related ethical standards.
The candidate should also have “collective bargaining/labor relations experience and exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.’’
The salary is listed as up to $225,000, depending on qualifications and experience. The job is described as offering a “highly competitive contract and compensation package, including attractive benefits.’’
The job listing was posted on the Web site of Municipal Resources Inc., which is serving as the consultant for the search.
A search committee comprised of town residents of a variety of backgrounds and experiences is tasked with bringing the top contenders to the Select Board.
The board will then interview the candidates and make the final decision.
The search committee meetings are held privately to protect the anonymity of the applicants. The names of the finalists selected will be publicly announced.
Those interested in the position were directed to access mrigov.com/career or to call Alan Gould, president of Municipal Resources, at 603-279-0352, ext. 320.
