Students make a case for Lakeville history
LAKEVILLE -- Three Old Colony Regional Technical School sophomores have built a piece of Lakeville history.
The students constructed a case to honor the town’s oldest resident.
For more than 100 years, the Boston Post cane was presented to the most senior resident in town. The Lakeville Historical Society asked whether any Old Colony students could build a wooden case for the cane to be displayed along with name plates of past recipients.
Three sophomores, Emily Best and Ryder Pavao from Lakeville and Adelaide Zell from Rochester, completed the work, which society members described as beautiful.
The students also signed their names and the dates on the back of the case. They were assisted by instructor Rick Peloquin.
The cane was presented most recently to Daniel Fernandes, who at 99 is Lakeville’s oldest resident.
