Honeybees from Oak Point create a buzz
MIDDLEBORO -- The Oak Point Honeybees had a sweet time performing at the Hannah Shaw Home June 8,entertaining with singalongs and patriotic numbers.
The group was formed almost a year ago and consists of eight women, ages 63 to 80. The Honeybees began performing at an Oak Point talent show and have spread their wings from there. The group visits area nursing homes, memory care units and Councils on Aging.
During a typical performance they dance three to four lively songs, such as “Respect,’’ “Uptown Funk,’’ “Boogie Shoes’’ and “My Boyfriend’s Back.’’
These numbers are choreographed and feature wardrobe changes. Maracas and tambourines are passed out for sing-alongs with audience participation during crowd-pleasers such as “Joy to the World,’’ “Tie a Yellow Ribbon,’’ “Sweet Caroline’’ and “YMCA.’’
At the June 8 performance, in commemoration of America’s 250th anniversary, American flags were passed out and everyone joined in signing “God Bless America.’’
“Our residents eagerly look forward to visits’’ from the Honeybees, Hannah Shaw activities director Ashley Stuart said. “Their talent, commitment, and joyful spirit make every performance a memorable experience for our entire community.’’
She noted that the Honeybees “don't just perform, they brighten our day. Their hard work, teamwork, and positive energy are appreciated by residents, families, and staff alike.’’
The Honeybees were honored at the June 8 show with citations from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts presented by District Director Susan Moran from State Rep. Kathy LaNatra’s office in recognition for their participation.
Group members are: Mary Francis, Pat Clarkson, Carol Banks, Lisa Laque, Kathy Cotter,Sharon Walker, Sandy Pansini, and Michelle Sharp.
