Cynthia A. (Callaghan) Hazard, 75
Cynthia A. (Callaghan) Hazard, age 75, of Middleborough, MA passed away on June 29, 2026, at Heights Crossing Assisted Living in Brockton, MA, surrounded by her loving family after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease.
Born in Fall River, MA to Laura (Desrosiers) and Joseph Callaghan, Cindy grew up in Assonet, MA where she made many happy childhood memories on Simpson Lane with her two older brothers, Joseph and Michael. She graduated from Mount Saint Mary's Academy in Fall River, MA in 1968. She later attended Stonehill College, where she met her future husband Wally at a mixer, and graduated in 1972 with a degree in Sociology.
After college Cindy worked briefly as a bank teller for BMC Durfee Trust in Fall River, MA and as a bookkeeper at Koala Inn in Braintree, MA. When her children David and Rachel came along, she opened an in-home daycare so she could spend time with them during their early years. She later returned to the workforce as a bookkeeper at RS Means in Kingston, MA, and finished her professional career at Heights Crossing Assisted Living, working there for 20 years as the Director of Business Administration. Her warmth, professionalism, competence, and good-natured personality endeared her to all she met, and she was beloved by the entire Heights Crossing community. It was a great comfort to her family knowing she was in the loving hands of the Heights staff as a resident during the last 2.5 years of her life.
Cindy loved baking for loved ones, gardening, crocheting, Boston sports, a good mystery, Motown music, and Bruce Springsteen. Most of all she loved spending time with her family and friends, being a mother, and being Nannie to her three beloved granddaughters. Cindy was usually smiling and was easy with a laugh. Her happiest times were spent sitting around a table with her husband, children, brothers, family, and dear friends - telling stories, laughing, and doing what she did best of all, listening.
Cindy is predeceased by her loving parents and her cherished son, David J. Hazard.
She is survived by her devoted husband Walter Hazard, her best friend and daughter Rachel Hazard, her son-in-law Brendan Cahoon, and her three granddaughters - Natalie, Ruby, and Alba. Also, by her dear brothers and sisters-in-law - Joseph Callaghan, MD and Hilda Callaghan, Michael Callaghan and Mary Beth Doherty; her nephews Paul and Matthew Callaghan, Dan Doherty, and her favorite niece Katherine Callaghan, MD. Additionally she is survived by her cousin Arlene Izzo, who was more like a sister to her, and her husband Tom; Marianne Riordan, and many other cousins and treasured friends.
To know Cindy was to love her. She will be eternally missed by all who were fortunate enough to have had her in their lives. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in her memory to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society or the Alzheimer's Association, 2 diseases she would have very much liked to see a cure for.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 9, 2026, from 11:00am-1:00pm at Dahlborg-MacNevin Funeral Home, located at 280 Bedford Street, Lakeville, MA, followed by a funeral service at 1:00pm.
