Community celebrates with Pride in Middleboro
MIDDLEBORO -- Several hundred visitors attended Middleboro’s pride festival June 13, with organizer Alex Cook describing the event as a “resounding success.’’
About 40 vendors were on site at the Middleboro Town Hall lawn.
Performers entertained, face-painting was available and two food trucks kept visitors fed.
Cook opened the festivities with a speech, highlighting that “pride is not just a celebration. It is the feeling of I am here, I am real, and I deserve to exist.”
Cook added that “we will not be bullied back into our closets. We will not be ignored...Whether it be running for local office, organizing community gathering and events, or even just living our truths and coming out. We will do something.” Cook paid tribute to Harvey Milk, the first openly gay man to be elected to public office in California, who famously said that “every Gay Person must come out.”
Cook thanked supporters after the event for “helping find my community, and my place in it...Already looking forward to next year.”
Karen Cook and Chloe Tubman also helped to organize the event.
