Robert "BOB" E. Desrosiers, 87
Bob was born in Fall River, Massachusetts to the late Joseph E. & Marie Rose “Julienne” (Lavoie) Desrosiers. He graduated from Monsignor Provost High School. Bob joined the U.S. Navy and served on the Heavy Cruiser USS Newport News in the Mediterranean, as the ship’s translator and photo-journalist for two years.
Upon his Honorable Discharge in 1959, Bob returned stateside and began his education at Bridgewater State College, where he met and fell in love with Alice C. Hearn. They both graduated from BSU with BA’s in Education and married on February 17, 1963. Bob started a long career in education as a French and Mathematics teacher at East Bridgewater High School. After a couple of years, he became the French teacher at Middleborough High School and started working on his MA in Education, again at Bridgewater State. Middleborough School Department recognized Bob’s management skills and promoted him in 1967 to be a principal for the Northern District Schools in Town, which included several one-and two-room schoolhouses. In 1975, he was promoted to be principal of the H.B. Burkland Intermediate School. He retired from that position in October 1993.
Bob was an active and involved member of the Middleborough community. He was a founder and driving force for the creation of the Middleborough Counseling Center. Bob was a member of the Democratic Town Committee and worked for local and state candidates for office. He was a lifetime member of the Middleborough Elks Lodge #1274 and the Mitchell Memorial Club.
Bob is survived by is wife of 63 years, Alice Desrosiers; his children, Rob Desrosiers & his wife Meg of Middleborough, Danielle Jameson and her husband Keith of Florida; grandchildren, Zachary Botelho & his wife Katelyn, Sam Botelho & his wife Emily, Katie Stephanian & her husband Bobby, Matthew and Maggie Desrosiers; great-grandchildren, Nora, Shea, Brody, Laine, and Caroline, sisters Diane Renau, Aline Coite & her husband Ron. Bob is also survived by many nieces and nephews in his extended family. He was pre-deceased by his sisters Lorraine Kennedy and Claire Guy.
Bob was a committed educator, father, grandfather, and most recently, great-grandfather. He truly dedicated his final years to caring for his wife at their home of 55 years on South Main Street. Bob was a good friend to many, a poker player with the old Fall River gang, and was known to share a beer or two with close friends. His relationships spanned decades. He is remembered fondly by his extended family, work colleagues, and former students.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Fireside Grille, 30 Bedford Street, Middleborough, on SUNDAY, JUNE 28, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM, in the Garden Tent.
