The giant globe will be at the fair, along with a life-sized Humpback whale that attendees can walk inside of.MIDDLEBORO — The fourth annual Cooler Middleboro Fair has a cool new addition this year — a hand-painted Earth globe as tall as a house.
The free fair will return on Saturday, March 21, and will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Middleboro High School Café Commons. The new globe display will be presented by Bridgewater State University geography staff who will answer whatever questions spring to mind.
Kids and families can also walk inside a life-size inflatable humpback whale, plant seeds, win prizes for a scavenger hunt, play games and make crafts — for free.
School students, Girl Scouts, and local youth groups will exhibit what they’re learning about the environment and sustainability. Middleboro High Innovation Lab woodworking students and Sustainable Middleboro nonprofit volunteers will also show the low-cost insulating window inserts they made this winter for food pantry constituents.
For adults, the fair will be a one-stop-shop to learn about the many ways to save money and energy through insulation, heat pumps, hot water heaters, induction stoves and solar panels — and at the same time attendees can learn rebates, 0% low-interest loans and other incentives for the energy-saving methods.
Local contractors, nonprofit organizations, and the Middleboro Gas and Electric Department will be on hand to answer questions, sign attendees up for energy audits and home estimates and talk about how to make the community more sustainable.
“Especially as this winter is ending, we’re expecting a lot of our neighbors to be ready to explore what they can do to bring down their utility and fuel costs. And we want to help,” said Kimberly French of Sustainable Middleboro in a press release. “Everything is free so parents and grandparents can keep an eye on youngsters having fun while talking to local contractors.”
The free fair is cosponsored by local nonprofits Sustainable Middleboro, New England Coastal Wildlife Alliance, and the high school’s environmental YESS Club.
