Rotary Club awards scholarships to four area seniors
MIDDLEBORO — The Middleboro/Lakeville Rotary Club awarded scholarships to four high school seniors during a dinner held July 9 at the Fireside Grille.
Recipients included Melina Freitas and Olivia Cheney of Middleboro High School as well Audrey Keller and Will Levrault of Apponequet Regional High School. The students were recognized for their academic ambition, leadership and community service.
“These scholarship opportunities are for any students living in Middleboro or Lakeville,” wrote Rotary Club member Kevin Quackenbush. “This year’s recipients exemplify the values of service, ambition and leadership that Rotary strives to nurture.”
Three of the four students attended the event alongside their families. Cheney was unable to attend, having already departed for college orientation.
The students shared their future plans, which include studying biology, engineering and marketing. Each received a scholarship check and congratulations from club members.
The Rotary Club funds the annual scholarships through its auction and support from the community. Scholarship applications are distributed to Middleboro High School, Apponequet Regional High School, Bristol-Plymouth Regional Technical School, Bristol County Agricultural High School and Old Rochester Regional High School.
The club typically awards four to five scholarships each year.
