Music of West African harp to be performed at library
Sep 13, 2026
MIDDLEBORO - The music of West Africa will fill the air as Sean Gaskell features songs on the kora, a 21-stringed West African harp, at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6 at the Middleboro Public Library.
Gaskell studied in Gambia and Senegal. The kora is traditionally played by oral historians known as Griots. Many songs featured on the kora preserve an 800-year history dating back to the founding of the Mande empire.
Gaskell has presented adult, youth and family programs at more than 400 libraries and many schools, colleges, universities and assisted living facilities.
No registration is required. This program is supported by the Peirce Trust.
