John F. Sylvia
John F. Sylvia was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, Navy veteran, and friend whose quiet strength, generous spirit, and deep love for his family defined the life he lived.
John shared 57 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Cookie. Together, they built a life filled with family, friendship, laughter, traditions, and countless memories. His greatest pride was his family, his son, Mark, daughter-in-law, Katie, and his cherished grandchildren, Jillian and Andrew, who brought him immeasurable joy.
John is also survived by his sister, Brenda Mason; his brother-in-law, Dan Medeiros (Mary Ann); and his much-loved nieces and nephews, Dan, Dana, Eddie Mike, Bob, and Carrie.
Quiet-natured and humble, John showed his love through the things he did: being present, lending a hand, and always making time for the people who mattered most. He loved watching his grandchildren participate in their sporting events and took great pride in seeing them grow. He planted lifelong lessons through the example he set and the way he lived.
A Navy veteran, John carried a strong sense of service and responsibility throughout his life. He retired after a long career at National Grid. Even in retirement, he enjoyed staying busy and helping others through his part-time work delivering for Spillane’s.
John found joy in the simple, beautiful things in life. He loved flowers of all kinds, and his yard was always blooming. He was an avid fisherman and hunter his entire life, and his boat, Bucktail, was the setting for many adventures and cherished memories. He had a lifelong love of old cars, and his beloved Chevelle was especially close to his heart. He also loved the beautiful Florida sunsets he enjoyed during the winters he spent there with Cookie over the past many years.
Most of all, John valued time with family and friends. He lived life to the absolute fullest, making memories, enjoying the outdoors, working with his hands, tending his flowers, admiring old cars, watching his grandchildren, and simply being surrounded by the people he loved.
John leaves behind a legacy of devotion, kindness, quiet strength, hard work, and love. His smile will be remembered, and the lessons he planted in those around him will continue to grow.
We will miss him more than words can express. His legacy, his smile, and the immense pride he took in his family will live on in everyone who knew him.
Visiting hours on September 11, 2026 (Friday) from 4 until 8 PM in the O'Neill Funeral Home, 59 Peirce Street (corner of School Street) Middleboro.
Funeral services on September 12, 2026 (Saturday) at 10 AM in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Sampson Cemetery, Lakeville.
