Alley Theatre takes whack at Lizzie Borden story
MIDDLEBORO -- Did Lizzie Borden really do it?
More than 130 years after one of America’s most infamous murder cases, the mystery of Lizzie Borden continues to fascinate, intrigue, and divide the public.
On Thursday, Oct. 22, from 6 to 7:30 p.m., historian and Lizzie Borden scholar Bill Pavao will present a symposium, The Life and Times of Lizzie Borden, at The Alley Theatre, 133 Centre St., Middleboro.
The Netflix series about Lizzie Borden has renewed interest in the notorious Fall River family. Audiences are once again asking the question that has endured for generations: Was Lizzie Borden guilty?
Pavao will take guests beyond the legends, rumors, and dramatized versions of the story to explore the actual people, evidence, history, and circumstances surrounding the Borden case.
Pavao served first as archivist and later as curator of the Lizzie Borden Bed & Breakfast/Museum from 1997 to 2004 and was curator of Lizzie Borden’s Maplecroft from 2015 to 2016.
He has also appeared in numerous television documentaries examining the Borden case and was a contributing historian for the cast of Lizzie of Fall River by Steve Dooner at The Alley Theatre in 2019.
During this 90-minute presentation, Pavao will share his extensive knowledge of Lizzie Borden, her family, the murders that shocked Fall River, and the case that has captivated generations.
The evening will conclude with a question-and-answer session, and then it will be up to the audience to decide for themselves: Do you think Lizzie did it?
