Scammers targeting Middleboro with fraudulent demands for payment regarding warrants, arrest
MIDDLEBORO — The Middleboro Police Department warns residents of an active scam targeting the town.
The department reported that residents have received fraudulent phone calls from scammers who say the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Department is demanding payment to avoid arrest for outstanding warrants. These calls are fraudulent.
The department shared these safety tips for residents:
Government agencies do not request payment over the phone to prevent arrest.
Government agencies will never accept payment via Bitcoin, Apple gift cards, Apple Pay cards or iTunes cards. Any demand for immediate payment using these methods is a scam.
If you receive a call like this:
Do not provide any personal or financial information, hang up immediately and report the incident to police.
