Middleboro police chief to retire

Sep 9, 2024

MIDDLEBORO — Middleboro Police Chief Joseph Perkins will retire within the next 30 to 60 days, he announced in a letter read at the Sept. 9 Select Board meeting.

He made the announcement, the letter stated, with “bittersweet sorrow and joy.’’

An exact retirement date has not yet been set, Perkins wrote.

Perkins has worked in law enforcement for 35 years, including nearly 25 years in the Middleboro Police Department. He has served as chief since January 2014.

Select Board Chair Mark Germain, who read the letter, described the chief as “someone I admire and respect.’’ He said he wished the chief “well in his retirement.’’

No information was immediately available on plans for a successor for Perkins.
