Nichols Middle School welcomes familiar face as new principal

MIDDLEBORO — Nichols Middle School has a new principal — and he's a familiar face to some in the community.

Timothy McLaughlin, who formerly served as the assistant principal at Nichols, is returning to lead the school, Middleboro Superintendent of Schools Carolyn Lyons told the School Committee at its June 11 meeting.

He will replace Heather Tucker, who begins work July 1 as director of student services for the Silver Lake Regional School District in Kingston.

McLaughlin, who first began working in Middleboro schools in 2012, is “very, very well-liked,” Lyons said.

Since leaving Middleboro in 2015, he has served as principal of Morse Pond School in Falmouth and as an elementary school principal in the West Bridgewater Public Schools.

Because of these experiences, his “skill set has developed,” she said. “He’s very knowledgeable.”

She said McLaughlin is “wonderful” and described his hiring as a “win for Nichols.”

McLaughlin holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Massachusetts Lowell, a master’s degree from Salem State University, and a certificate of advanced graduate study in school leadership.
