LAKEVILLE A hole in the parking lot at Assawompset Elementary School closed the school’s main entrance on Thursday, June 12.

The Lakeville Police Department was on the scene, and said there was no danger to students or the public and no injuries have been reported. The hole was caused by a failure in the underground drainage structure which “compromised” a portion of the parking lot, according to police.

Police blocked off the compromised area in the lot and closed the main entrance. Officials said the hole would affect parent pickup and bus dismissals. The Freetown-Lakeville Regional School District will provide updates and changes to student pickup.

Police said they are working with school officials and public works crews to ensure the safety of the area and to assist with traffic control.
