Fatal Middleboro fire leaves one dead, three injured
MIDDLEBORO — The Middleboro Fire Department responded to a deadly structure fire at an apartment complex at 172 Ashley Lane on Sunday morning.
One adult was pronounced dead at the scene, while two residents and a firefighter were transported to area hospitals for what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries Dec. 7.
According to the department, there was heavy smoke and flames coming from the first and second floors of a condo building when crews arrived on site.
The fire also extended to two adjacent buildings, according to the department, which included four units. These additional buildings were significantly damaged, and affected residents are being assisted by the American Red Cross.
Bridgewater Fire, Raynham Fire, Lakeville Fire, Wareham Fire and Carver EMS provided mutual aid, and Carver Fire provided station coverage.
Crews will remain on scene to monitor hot spots.
The origin and cause of the fire remain under investigation by the fire department, the Middleborough Police Department and the Massachusetts State Police.
