Dorothy "Dottie" J. (Gomes) Lucas, age 83, of Middleborough, passed away peacefully surrounded by family, on Friday, August 2, 2024 at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston.

She was born in Middleborough, MA, on May 19, 1941 to Alfred and Mary (Chaves) Gomes. Dorothy was the loving mother of Robin (Lucas) Leal Craver, Lynn K. (Lucas) DeBoyes and Darin Davis Lucas. She is survived by her treasured sons-in-law Robert Craver and Brett DeBoyes and her beloved daughter-in-law Cheryl Looper; her cherished grandchildren Mathew Lucas, Jory Lucas, Jamie Leal and husband Damian Hagglund, Michael Leal, Lynn Lucas, Michelle Lucas, Sierra Lucas, Brandon Looper; eight great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews; her sisters Beverly Cornell, Mary and husband Steve Kinch, Donna Gomes, and Kathy Mancini. In addition to her parents, Dottie was predeceased by her sister Janice LeVesque and brothers LeRoy Gomes and Donald Gomes.

She managed the Joyland Motel in Myrtle Beach, SC in the late 1960’s and returned to Massachusetts in 1971 where she raised her children, working at the Middleboro VFW, and later went back to school for computer programing/operation where she worked in the Boston and Brockton garment industry until her retirement. The next journey for Dorothy was to serve her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ with great love, kindness and compassion in her heart. She worshipped God and worked to help those in need including providing meals to the homeless in Taunton, MA; planning and working religious revivals in Wareham, MA; and volunteering for events of the local Special Needs Athletic Programs with her daughter, Lynn. Over the years, she belonged to several churches and enjoyed Bible Study. She often opened her home to those individuals who had no home or were in emotional crisis, giving them love and support until they could stand on their own.

All are invited to the calling hours at the Ashley Funeral Home, 35 Oak Street, Middleborough, on Saturday, August 10, 2024, from 2:00 to 6:00 PM, followed by a celebration of life service beginning at 6:00PM.

Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Middleboro SNAP, Inc. (Special Needs Athletic Program) at the Bluestone Bank, Lakeville, MA (on memo line, please list: In Memory of Dorothy Lucas).
