Winningest Middleboro football coach honored
MIDDLEBORO — Middleboro Sachems football coach Pat Kingman won his 93rd game on Friday, Sept. 24, defeating Worcester Vocational Technical High School 42-6.
But while being honored for his success, he reminded everyone that he’s not perfect.
“I’m also the losingest coach of all time,” Kingman said.
He said that both records testified to his longevity: Kingman’s record-setting win came during his 162nd game as Middleboro’s head coach.
“People don’t coach for 16 years anymore,” he said.
Kingman and his team were recognized for their success by the School Committee during its Oct. 8 meeting. School Committee member Sean Mokeler said it was part of an effort to highlight positive happenings around the district and community.
Athletic Director Ryan Sylvia said that Kingman is a “true teacher-coach.”
“He fully exemplifies the core values of Middleboro High School: strength, achievement excellence, sportsmanship, respect, effort, pride and discipline,” Sylvia said.
At the end of his speech, Kingman told his team members in the audience, “Let’s go get number 94 tomorrow night.”
