School Committee looks for superintendent screening committee members, feedback
MIDDLEBORO — There are 11 openings for members of the superintendent screening committee.
The Middleboro School Committee determined who the screening committee would be composed of at its Oct. 8 meeting.
School Committee Chair Susan Pennini said that there would be 13 members on the screening committee. She and Kim Redlon will be the two School Committee representatives.
The other 11 positions will include one school administrator, one teacher from pre-K through fifth grade, one teacher from sixth grade through 12th grade, two parents or guardians of current students, one Middleboro Education Association union member, one community member, one town government member, one district administrator, one Middleboro Schools non-teaching staff and one student.
“Each of these people, and their roles of what they’re coming from, bring a different perspective. And all of those perspectives are incredibly important,” Pennini said.
She said that having those different backgrounds will enable the screening committee members to come up with the best set of criteria for a superintendent candidate.
The School Committee is drafting an application for these positions that will be publicized soon.
Focus groups held on Oct. 15 and 16 for parents, students and staff at different schools will give the School Committee more input. The focus groups will be run by Sean Costello of the Massachusetts Association of School Committees, who helps with superintendent searches.
A survey the School Committee sent to the community has also amassed 126 respondents, over 40% of which are parents, Pennini said.
