Lakeville remembers vets with wreath-laying ceremony
LAKEVILLE — Wreaths placed on several Lakeville monuments serve as a reminder to thank those who have served our country.
As part of Lakeville’s annual Veterans Day Observance ceremony, wreaths were placed at several memorials in town on Monday, Nov. 11. The event was hosted by the Lakeville Historical Commission.
To kick off the ceremony, veterans, their families and town residents gathered at the William F. Hitchcock Memorial at Assawompset School, where the first wreath was placed.
The crowd then made their way to the Lakeville Honor Roll at the Historic Town House and Dickran Diran Square where wreaths were also laid. The commission gave a brief history of each memorial as wreaths were placed.
The bells at the Lakeville United Church of Christ were rung at 11:11 a.m. to commemorate the Armistice to end World War I at the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month. The ceremony concluded with a photo of all veterans present.
