Lakeville’s Bedford Street will shut down for one-day TV production
LAKEVILLE – Hollywood is coming to Lakeville, for one day, anyway.
The TV series “Invitation to a Bonfire,’’ will film on Lakeville’s Bedford Street next week.
The production will take over Bedford Street from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 17. Filming will stretch from Long Point Road to the Rochester town line.
Driving scenes will be filmed on Bedford Street, according to an application from the moviemakers requesting that the road be closed.
The Lakeville Select Board approved the application during its meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 11.
Select Board Chair Richard LaCamera warned residents that the detour will be “a long way around” for people used to driving on Bedford Street.
“That’s going to be quite an inconvenience for a lot of people,” LaCamera said. “A lot of people go to the MBTA station that way.”
LaCamera noted the importance of notifying residents about the detour.
Route 18 provides an alternate route west of Bedford Street that will bypass the production. East of Bedford Street, residents looking to reach Main Street can take Long Point Road to Marion Road, then turn left on Walnut Street and continue on Vaughan Street until reaching Main Street.
“Invitation to a Bonfire’’ is based on a novel of the same name by Adrienne Celt and is set at an all-girls boarding school in the 1930s. The novel was inspired by novelist Vladimir Nabokov’s marriage to his wife, Vera.
Tatiana Maslany, who previously appeared in “Orphan Black’’ and “She-Hulk: Attorney At Law,’’ will play the character inspired by Nabokov’s wife. She earned a Primetime Emmy for her performance in “Orphan Black.’’
Pilou Asbaek, the Danish actor who played Euron Greyjoy in “Game of Thrones,” will play the character inspired by Nabokov. Freya Mavor, a Scottish actress who has performed in the TV show “Skins’’ and the HBO series “Industry,” will portray Zoya, the main character who enters a love triangle with Maslany and Asbaek’s characters.
The production will pay for a police detail to secure the location at a cost of $1,034, plus $275 in overtime for the Department of Public Works to set up and take down detour signs. It also paid the town $500 for its application fee.
The show is produced by AMC Studios and Stalwart Productions and scheduled to release in 2023 on AMC+.
