Meet the top 10 Apponequet graduates in the Class of 2025

LAKEVILLE — Soon, this year’s Apponequet Regional High School graduates will walk the stage and receive their diplomas. While graduating is an accomplishment for every student, a few deserve extra recognition for their academic achievements.

Graduation will be held on Friday, June 6 at 6 p.m. on the football field. The rain date is Saturday, June 7 at 10 a.m.

Below are the Apponequet graduates at the top of the Class of 2025 academically.

Niamh Gallagher. Niamh is co-president of the Art Share Travel Club, secretary of the Green Team and a board member of Laker Leaders. She is a varsity athlete in soccer and lacrosse and a member of the Portuguese Club and Student Council. She received the Francis W. Gallishaw Memorial Award. Niamh has volunteered with the Apponequet Athletic Boosters, helped with Artapalooza at Assawompset Elementary School each year and assists during the Pan-Mass Challenge. She plans to attend Tufts University and major in international relations on a pre-law track.

Madeline Polochick. Madeline ran cross-country and winter track for four years and joined spring track for the last two. She has been involved in DECA since junior year and Laker Leaders for three years. She earned the Coaches Award in cross-country, several science course awards and the Bausch and Lomb Honorary Science Award. Madeline has volunteered with the Apponequet Athletic Boosters, summer track camps, Women and Infants Hospital and New Balance Nationals. She plans to major in nursing at the University of Hartford.

Lucas Soares. Lucas is president of the Executive Board of Student Council and has served on the board for the past two years. He has been part of every fall play and spring musical as an Apponequet Player since freshman year. Lucas is also involved in Math Team, Game Club, Art Club and Physics Olympics. He earned science awards in honors biology and chemistry and in AP Chemistry and Physics 1. He has volunteered at Soule Homestead, Gifts to Give, Artapalooza and school events. Lucas works at Dunkin and was promoted to shift leader after starting the summer of his sophomore year. He holds a blue belt in jujitsu after more than 11 years of training and helps coach children’s classes. He plans to study astrophysics and pursue a career in cosmological research.

Ryan Vincent. Ryan played varsity soccer, hockey and track all four years. A four-year member of DECA, he also served as chapter treasurer. He received STEM awards in honors biology, Python programming and AP biology. Ryan has volunteered the past two summers with Gnome Surf Therapy. He plans to attend the University of South Carolina to pursue a dual degree in neuroscience and biomedical engineering.

Alex Keefe. Alex has been involved in DECA and theater and is the president and founder of the Apponequet Book Club. He competed on the boys’ swim team and earned a varsity letter. He received the Apponequet Science Subject Award for honors physics and the South Coast Academic All-Star Achievement Award. Alex has volunteered at Artapalooza, the eighth grade social and with the Apponequet Athletic Boosters. He will attend Bridgewater State University to study English with a concentration in literary studies and Spanish.

Kohana Fontinha. Kohana is vice president of the National Honor Society and a varsity athlete in volleyball, tennis and indoor track. She is also a member of DECA and Laker Leaders. She earned MVP, captain and South Coast Conference All-Star honors in volleyball and tennis, along with the SCC Super Team award in tennis and a chemistry award. Kohana has coached tennis clinics at the Lakeville Athletic Club and volunteered at the Middleboro Food Pantry. She plans to major in nursing and minor in Spanish at the University of Tampa.

Jillian Maher. Jillian has been involved in tennis, volleyball, competitive dance, NHS, Green Team, Math Team, Student Council and Laker Leaders. She received the AP Scholar Award, a science award, South Coast Conference Honorable Mention, the Laker Award and has consistently made the honor roll. Jillian has volunteered with young and disabled dancers, at school events and at her local church. She will attend Fairfield University’s honors program, majoring in finance with a minor in actuarial science.

Ava Mello. Ava is the community service coordinator for the National Honor Society and has played field hockey since freshman year. She has been active in DECA, Laker Leaders, the Superintendent’s Roundtable and Student Council, where she served as E-board vice president this year. Ava received the John and Abigail Adams Scholarship. She has volunteered with the Boys and Girls Club, South Coast Field Hockey and the Walk to End Alzheimer’s. She will attend George Washington University to major in international affairs.

Alexandra True. Alexandra is president of Drama Club, vice president of Book Club and a member of cross-country, Select Choir and the Portuguese Club. She received a science award for earth science and the Bob Keith Memorial Scholarship. Alexandra has volunteered with her church and through the Once Upon a Generation program.

Colby Blais. Colby is president of choir and a member of the Select Choir. He has participated in Drama Club, Physics Olympics and Book Club and has been a Laker Leader for two years. He earned Eagle Scout honors, the Physics Science Award and the AP Scholar with Honors Award. Colby has volunteered at his local community breakfast and worked on environmental projects through the Scouts. He plans to attend Wentworth Institute of Technology to major in electrical engineering.
