In the Thanksgiving spirit, veterans help veterans

MIDDLEBORO — In the spirit of Thanksgiving, Veterans Services Officer Steve Adelman led volunteers to give back to those who served the United States.

Local military veterans drove up to a large box of turkeys at the Society of St. Vincent de Paul and picked up their poultry from the volunteers.

“It’s just a small way to give back,” Adelman, an Iraq War veteran, said.

Other veterans volunteered to help their fellow servicemembers. Vietnam War veteran Paul Provenche, Air Force veteran Mary Standish, and Vietnam veterans Darlene and Ron Parsons helped hand out the Turkey Day namesake.

Coast Guard Veteran Dave Signer was one of the veterans who drove up to take his turkey, and he voiced his appreciation to the volunteers.

In all, the group will provide 53 turkeys for 53 veterans, Adelman said.

Adelman said that veterans and their widows can sign up to receive holiday meal aid for Christmas and Easter in addition to Thanksgiving. Contact the Middleboro Veterans Services Offices at 508-946-2407.
