Raynham select board member running for Pacheco seat

Raynham Select Board member Joseph Pacheco has announced he is seeking the Democratic nomination for the Third Bristol and Plymouth Senate seat currently held by Marc Pacheco who is not seeking re-election.

While the state senator and the select board memember are not related, the state senator has formally endorsed Joseph Pacheco’s candidacy.

The seat covers 10 communities, including Middleboro, Carver, Marion, and Wareham in Plymouth County.

In announcing his candidacy, Joseph Pacheco stated “I recognize the next nine months will require hard work, and more listening than talking. I pledge to you a transparent campaign, and open dialogue with you, the voters.”

“Sound fiscal planning to better our economy. Ensuring we meet our obligation to guarantee the best for our schools for our children. Fighting for access to safe, convenient, and adequate health care. This is what you can expect of me as your state senator,’’ Pacheco said. “That and straight talk in tough times and consider that to be non-negotiable.’’

Pacheco was first elected in 2007, becoming the youngest ever select board member in Raynham history. Pacheco is the fourth generation of his family to live in Raynham, spanning over 100 years of residency.

Pacheco highlighted his families’ commitment to service, noting that his great-grandfather Tony was one of Raynham’s first uniformed police officers; his grandfather Jim was the towns founding Park and Rec Commissioner; and his father Rick is a Raynham Police Captain.

No stranger to Plymouth County, Pacheco noted this his parents met in high school in Swifts Beach, and that he was able to spend summers down there as a child.

“I know this district, and I know its communities,” said Pacheco.

Pacheco is a graduate of Bridgewater State University and maintains membership in various civic organizations.
