New Middleboro Schools finance director approved
MIDDLEBORO — A vacancy in Middleboro Schools’ central office will soon be filled.
The Middleboro School Committee approved Mark Friedman as the district’s new director of business and finance at its Oct. 22 meeting.
Friedman currently serves as the school business administrator for Martha’s Vineyard Public Schools.
“He brings six years as a school business officer in a very complex situation on Martha’s Vineyard,” said Interim Superintendent David Thomson. “I firmly believe that we need that kind of expertise walking into these next few difficult years with budget planning and budget analysis.”
There were two finalists, but Thomson and the other members of the screening committee for the position decided to go with Friedman. Thomson said that there is a “critical shortage” of school finance directors available, and that it was “amazing” to be in a position to choose between two candidates.
Thomson said Friedman is aiming to start in either late November or early December. Once the date is finalized, he will receive and sign a three-year contract.
Friedman will succeed former Director of Business and Finance Michael Perrone, who became interim assistant superintendent of finance and operations at the Old Rochester Regional School District on Sept. 21.
