TOWN OF MIDDLEBOROUGH
TAX COLLECTOR
PRESS RELEASE
DATE: November 25, 2024
FROM:R. Renee Fernandes, Tax Collector
Ross Lawrence, Assessor/Appraiser
RELEASE:Immediate
The Fiscal 2025 Real Estate and Personal Property tax bills were mailed to Middleborough property owners on November 22, 2024. The fiscal year 2025 residential tax rate is $13.41 and the commercial, industrial & personal property rate is $14.21. The bills will be due and payable on or before December 23, 2024. Payments received after that date will be subject to a 14 per cent interest charge which would begin on December 24, 2024 in accordance with state law.
Fiscal 2025 Real Estate and Personal Property bills are sent to the assessed owner as of January 1, 2024. We make every attempt to obtain new owner mailing addresses but if you receive a tax bill for a property no longer owned by you, please either send the bill to the new owner or return it to the office of the Tax Collector advising them of the change in ownership so the bill may be forwarded. Taxpayers with bank escrow accounts should make certain that the mortgage holder has made arrangements for accurate and timely payments.
By law, the taxpayer is responsible for the tax bill whether or not a bill is received. If you do not receive your tax bill within a reasonable amount of time following the date of issue, contact the office of the Tax Collector for the amount due and/or a copy of the bill.
Taxpayers who qualify for statutory exemptions such as elderly, disabled veteran (service-connected disability), blind, or surviving spouse and HAVE NOT already filed may come into the Assessors’ Office on or before April 1, 2025 to submit an application. You will be required to supply a copy of supporting documentation including a birth or death certificate, etc. if we do not have one on file or you are filing for the first time.
Abatement applications for both Real Estate and Personal Property may be filed at the Assessors’ Office. The application can be found at the town’s website www.middleboroughma.gov on the Assessors’ Office web page. The comparable sales book is available in the Assessors’ Office.
