Energy-saving tax credits expire in December, here’s how to use them
Until the end of 2025 homeowners and businesses can obtain a 30% federal tax credit for a wide range of energy-saving and clean-energy measures, according to local nonprofit Sustainable Middleboro.
Those measures can include heat pumps, insulation and air sealing, water heaters, electric vehicle chargers, rooftop solar, battery storage and more. Unlike a deduction, a tax credit is a dollar-for-dollar reduction in your taxes.
These credits will end on December 31.
“If you’ve been thinking of making any of these energy improvements, this tax credit is a fantastic incentive to jump on before it’s gone,” writes Hayden Kane, Weatherization Navigator for Sustainable Middleboro. “You can combine it with local rebates and low-interest financing programs.”
Kane is available for free consults to guide local residents and business owners through the process of weatherizing their homes and buildings in order to save money and energy at 774-419-5250 or navigator@sustainablemiddleborough.org. To be eligible for rebates, the first step is signing up for a free energy assessment at 888-772-4242 or ene.org/sustainability/hea.
