At age 99, Fernandes is the oldest resident in town and received the Boston Post Cane last year. He was a past member of the Lakeville Lions from 1966-1974 and President from 1973-1974. Lakeville Lions President Alanna Thompon presented the honorary membership certificate with his wife, Irene, at his side.
