Edward J. Moranville, 87
Edward J. Moranville of Lakeville died peacefully on June 11, 2025. As his health declined, Ed never complained, playing the cards he was dealt and always remaining positive. He was 87.
He was born on August 6, 1937 in Lakeville, son of the late Russell S. and Lena (Caperello) Moranville, attending local schools. Ed was a graduate of Middleboro High School, Class of 1955. An athlete, he was a runner, particpating in both Cross Country and Spring Track, serving as captain for both teams in his Senior year. He was a member of the National Guard for 9 years. A man of strong work ethic, Ed worked in the shoe manufacturing industry and held a variety of positions in the grocery business. He devoted almost 30 years to the Shaw's (formerly BPM) Grocery Warehouse in East Bridgewater prior to his retirement.
Ed loved his family and that love was returned. A true family man – family meant everything to him. In his later years, he especially enjoyed being a great-grandfather (he is Gramps to all the grandkids and greats) watching the little tykes at family gatherings, especially at Christmas. Ed loved the holidays and celebrating birthdays. A weather nut, the more severe the weather the better he liked it!
An unwavering and loyal Boston Red Sox fan, he rarely missed a televised game. Thru the years, he had many hobbies including stamp collecting, searching every penny that came across his wallet looking for the “valuable” wheat pennies. In addition, Ed enjoyed antique bottle digging in the woods, hiking, walking and photography with the old point and shoot cameras. Ed maintained an epic vegetable garden, never a weed present and grew each and every row of vegetables perfectly staked and organized. The past few years Ed could be found working on jigsaw puzzles, donating completed puzzles to nursing homes, senior centers, public libraries and to his brother-in-law in Georgia. When his children were young, Ed created a croquet court in backyard with short grass runways, along with tall grass “rough” areas. A badminton court was another of his designs. Ed appreciated the fall foliage trips with his brother David and his wife, the highlight being seeing moose. Without a doubt, his wife Dorothy was the love of his life. Ed enjoyed telling stories of how the two met at work. He was a true people person and would start a conversation with anyone he met. Ed enjoyed a good card game, enthusiastically playing Hearts and Rummy over the years with members of both sides of the family, including his own children and grandchildren.
Beloved husband for 61 years of the late Dorothy R. (Bujanski) Moranville. Adored father of Kathleen R. Bunch of Lutz, Florida, Amy L. Giovanoni and her husband, Joseph of Buzzards Bay. Cherished grandfather of Michael J. Giovanoni and his wife, Cassandre, Michelle K. Ryll and her husband, Sean and the late Maria Sarah Rose Giovanoni. Loving great-grandfather of Calvin John Ryll, Oliver Theo Ryll, Gianna Agenor Maria Giovanoni, and Alessandra Agenor Giovanoni. Brother of the late David R. Moranville, Dennis L. Moranville, and Alice L. Clark. Also survived by nieces, nephews and their families.
