Feb 8, 2025

MIDDLEBORO — The Middleboro Senior Center will offer a series of activities to keep visitors warm on cold, snowy February days. Here is a sampling.

Celebrate Valentine’s Day with Jennifer Mello Thursday, Feb. 13 at 1 p.m.

Mello has been a singer/songwriter for many years. She will entertain with the standards and top 40 hits from the fifties to today. She is likely to perform the hits from Patti Page, Connie Francis, Patsy Cline, Karen Carpenter, Anne Murray, and Carly Simon, among others. Be prepared to hear some of the hits of Motown, the disco era, and the eighties.

A chicken parmesan dinner will be served promptly at noon; cost is $5 per person. Call ahead to book a seat, 508-946-2490.

Grab a scarf, coat and hat and prepare to look back to the blizzard of 1978.

Nancy Frank of Frankly Speaking will travel back at 1 p.m.Thursday, Feb. 27 to the catastrophic nor'easter that we now call the Blizzard Of ’78.

Her presentation takes visitors through the 27.1 inches of snow that fell over the course of 33 hours to assist the 3,000 cars and 500 trucks stranded along an eight-mile stretch of Route 128. She will stop at homes, roads, and infrastructure destroyed by tidal flooding and violent winds. Amid this catastrophe, stories of kindness, cooperation, and courage will warm the heart.

The presentation will wrap up with a snow-themed raffle. Call to reserve a spot, 508-946-2490.

Middleboro Police Elder Affairs Officer Steve Valerio will teach seniors about the scams that target them and how to avoid scammers during a program at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 20.

Scams include fake package delivery alerts, online romance schemes, Medicare and government impersonations and fraudulent tech support calls.

This program will discuss scams and present advice on how to outsmart scammers and make informed decisions. Call to reserve a spot. A meatloaf luncheon will follow.
