UPDATE: ‘Stressed’ driver reportedly dumped Amazon packages
LAKEVILLE — The holidays can be stressful, and they certainly were for an Amazon driver who acknowledged dumping about 80 packages in a wooded area in Lakeville Saturday, Dec. 21.
The driver visited the Lakeville police department Monday, Dec. 23 and acknowledged leaving the packages on the side of the road at about 7 p.m. Saturday because the individual was “stressed,’’ Lakeville Police Chief Matthew Perkins said.
Those packages were found near 63 Bedford St. by Lakeville Police Sgt. Shawn Robert during a routine patrol at about 2 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 22.
Police are not seeking any criminal charges, and the driver planned to report the incident to their manager.
Lakeville Police had already contacted the local Amazon distribution center in Middleboro and returned the packages to the company.
"I am proud of the way our Lakeville Police officers handled and investigated this matter. At this time, we are not seeking criminal charges and are considering this a human resources matter for Amazon," Perkins said.
