For the 32nd year in a row, the Middleboro Sachems took on the Carver Crusaders in a rivalry Thanksgiving Day Football game where both teams battled through harsh conditions but it was Middleboro who ultimately won the game.

The game took place at Middleboro High School Thursday, Nov. 28 and after a quiet first half from both teams, the Sachems were able to put together a strong offensive and defensive performance winning the game by a score of 34 to 6.

The game was not just the celebration of an annual football on Thanksgiving tradition, it was also senior day for the Sachems football and cheerleading team.

Patrick Kingman, head coach for the Sachems said he was very happy to send his team home for the season with a win.

"These are great kids and they love football," sad Kingman. "Some Thanksgiving games have lost their luster but when you're playing a team that's on the border of the playoffs it means a lot more. These kids gave everything they have."

Andrew Falk is a senior and captain for Middleboro and said it "feels great" to get the win on Thanksgiving.

"I'm proud to end off the year with these guys, said Falk. "The weather wasn't great but we held off and I'm glad we played the way we did. It was a lot of fun."

Despite the cold and rainy weather, members of the community came out in support of the team.

Debbie Parsons was there to watch her grandson Will Soule play in his last football game for Middleboro.

"It's wonderful to see him honored," said Parsons. "I watched his dad and his older brother play football in literally every kind of weather."

Middleboro football alumni were also in the crowd including 2023 graduate Henry Fuller and 2024 graduate Nate Goodine. Both explained they miss being out on the field but they were confident the Sachems would win.

"Middleboro is hard pounding football so we'll do just fine in the weather," said Fuller.

Goodine added he thinks the tradition of football on Thanksgiving is "awesome" and and is a great way to wrap up the season on "an important day of giving thanks."
