What’s in store this month at the Middleboro COA
MIDDLEBORO – From insulation workshops to school plays, there is lots going on at the Middleboro Council on Aging this month. Call the office at 508-946-2490 to sign up for or ask for more information about an event.
Help is available throughout the month for Middleboro seniors wishing to apply for Fuel Assistance and/or SNAP (formerly known as Food Stamps). By appointment only. Call the office to sign up.
State Rep. Norman Orrall will be at the Middleboro COA on Monday, Nov. 4 from 11 a.m. to noon.
Sustainable Middleborough will be at the COA from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 6 to teach residents how to make their homes more comfortable this winter and lower their energy bills. Sustainable Middleboro’s weatherization expert Hayden Kane will be there for the event. Kane will show those interested how to get federal, state and local financial help to weatherize their homes.
On Thursday, Nov. 7, Lakeville resident and author Richard Tripp will present his book “Lessons Learned in Zuni: A Pueblo Memoir” at the COA at 1 p.m. Tripp taught English on a Zuni reservation in New Mexico from 1969 to 1972. He wrote a book telling his stories from that wonderful adventure. Call the office to sign up.
On Tuesday, Nov. 12 at 10:30 a.m., the Middleboro Public Library Homeschool Group will present “Holka Polka,” a short play about a fairytale mystery. A kid-friendly lunch will be served at 12 p.m. Cost is $5 per person. Call the office to sign up.
On Thursday, Nov. 14 at 1:30 p.m., presenter Nancy Franks of Frankly Speaking will trace the 100-year history of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, which made its debut in 1924. The presentation will end with a holiday-themed raffle. Call the office to reserve a seat.

On Monday, Nov. 18 at 1 p.m. the film “The Holdovers” will be shown at the COA. In the film, a curmudgeonly instructor at a New England school stays on campus during Christmas break. He soon forms an unlikely bond with a brainy but damaged troublemaker, and with the school’s cook, a woman who just lost a son in the Vietnam War. Starring Paul Giamatti, rated R.
