MIDDLEBORO — Taunton’s Director of Elections has been selected as Middleboro’s new town clerk.

The Middleboro Select Board unanimously selected Pamela Menconi as the new town clerk during a brief meeting April 18. No comments were made about the selection.

The board agreed to ask Town Manager James McGrail to begin negotiations with Menconi on a contract.

Menconi has worked as an assistant town clerk and a director of elections during her 13 years in local government.

She started as a senior clerk in Raynham before being promoted to the town's assistant town clerk position, which she held from 2012 to 2018. Menconi then served as an assistant town clerk in Easton before moving to the role of Director of Elections in Taunton.

She received an associate's degree in legal studies from Newbury College in 1996.

Menconi will replace Allison Ferreira, who was recently named the town’s first human resources director.

Two other finalists, Elizabeth Gazerro and Cheryl Sass, were vying for the position.

Gazerro currently works as the assistant town clerk in Middleboro, a position she has held since 2012. She has worked in Middleboro's town government since 2005, when she joined the building department as a clerk.

She moved to the town clerk's office as a junior clerk in 2007 before her promotion to the role of assistant town clerk in 2012.

Sass has experience as a Town Clerk, having held the position in Randolph since 2019. She served as the administrative assistant to the Randolph Town Clerk from 2008 until she was promoted in 2019.

Before entering municipal government, Sass worked as a legal secretary for three different law firms between 1993 and 2008. She graduated from Randolph High School in 1990 and received an associate's degree from Milton College in 1993.
