Westport man suffers 'potentially life-threatening' injuries after Lakeville crash
LAKEVILLE — A 45-year-old Westport man was transported to St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford with “potentially life-threatening” injuries after his car crashed along Route 140 in Lakeville Saturday night and flipped over on the side of the road.
First responders arrived on scene at 10 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26, according to the Lakeville Fire Department.
The car drove off the road, struck a tree and a sign and flipped, trapping the driver inside, public safety officials reported.
Firefighters, local and state police reported to the site of the crash, near the County Street exit along Route 140 north in Lakeville.
Lakeville Fire Chief Michael O’Brien reported the man was transported to the hospital with “significant” and “potentially life-threatening” injuries. The driver had to be removed from the vehicle using Jaws of Life, a tool that rips apart car frames to rescue individuals stuck inside a vehicle.
Firefighters, local and state police were on the scene. The driver was transported to the hospital within 15 minutes of public safety personnel arriving at the site of the crash, according to the Lakeville Fire Department.
