Trash bag, transfer station fees to increase

Apr 17, 2023

LAKEVILLE — Residents will have to pay more to send their trash to the Lakeville Transfer Station starting July 1.

The cost increases are a result of increased pricing from vendors and larger bag sizes, according to Department of Public Works Director Franklin Moniz. The last increase to transfer station prices was in 2019.

At an April 10 meeting, the Select Board approved a $2 increase per five-pack of small trash bags, a $2.50 increase per five-pack of large trash bags, and a $10 increase for transfer station stickers.

That brings the price of a five-pack of small bags to $10, a five-pack of large bags to $15, and stickers to $70.

Select Board member Lorraine Carboni said the bags are flimsy and that she and other residents sometimes need to use two bags when disposing of trash.

Moniz said that the bags the town uses are standard and that thicker bags would be more expensive for residents.

Transfer station stickers are available now for $70, while the bag price rises will kick in on July 1 or when the town’s current stock is depleted.

Residents can now purchase transfer station stickers online. Click here to sign up.

Stickers can also be purchased at the station, 100 Kenneth Welch Drive. Residents are asked to print out the payment confirmation and bring it with their vehicle registration to the transfer station when picking up a sticker.

The transfer station sells stickers at the facility by cash or check only.
