Team effort brings fresh look to Veterans Memorial Park
MIDDLEBORO —The Middleboro Veterans Memorial Park recently received a spring update, thanks to local volunteers and businesses.
Last spring the mulch at the site was replaced with white marble chips and many of the plants were upgraded. Home Depot representatives cleared out the mulch, replaced it with the marble chips, and planted the new shrubs. The corporate office provided all the supplies, and the Taunton store provided the labor.
By the fall, the marble chips were getting onto the red bricks and scratching them so the chips were removed. Home Depot volunteered to supply sod to replace the marble chips.
On Saturday, April 22, new sod was installed around all the plants and monuments. Home Depot delivered the donated sod. Greener Horizons came in and got rid of all the weeds, added topsoil were needed and installed the sod. Work was also done to remove weeds in the brick areas of the park, install a new red maple tree and place mulch around the plants.
Spillane Nursery donated the new red spruce tree on the right side of the park. Paul Provencher, past Veterans Services Officer, and American Legion member Doc Ingram picked up and delivered the tree.
Atlantics Irrigation came in and redesigned the whole irrigation system because the old system was designed to water just the plants. Now that grass has been planted on the site, a new system with sprinkler heads was needed. The company came in and replaced all the needed parts and new timers.
Bill Seckinger of Muckey’s Liquors in Lakeville supplied beverages during all the work sessions and the after-work BBQ held at the Greener Horizons
facilities. He also handed out trinkets to all the participants.
