MIDDLEBORO — After experiencing several distressing readings earlier in her life, Kim Demontigny said that she found her reading with Medium Beverly Sylvia to be a “great” experience.

On Saturday, Jan. 13, a group of psychics, mediums, and other spiritual experts gathered at the Mitchell Memorial Club in Middleboro to provide readings to members of the public. Demontigny was one of the many people who used the services of a medium that day to get in touch with the deceased who played an important role in her life.

“I was a little bit nervous,” Demontigny said. She had previously done other card readings several years ago, but because she was “going through a terrible time in my life” she “had terrible readings.”

But Sylvia proved her worth to Demontigny quickly. Sylvia was able to determine the name of her deceased grandmother, Demontigny said, without any clues from Demontigny. 

“She [Sylvia] got my grandmother's name almost perfect,” Demontigny said. “It’s Marylee; she said Mary.”

“I didn’t even mention my grandmother at all,” Demontigny added. “She brought it up.”

At the beginning of the reading, Sylvia asked Demontigny to create five piles of cards. Sylvia then went through each pile and shared insights about Demontigny’s life as well as insights about deceased people like Demontigny’s grandmother.

“You want to center yourself,” Sylvia said, describing her process. “You want to get your vibration up there because you want to reach spirits up there.”

Part of the benefits mediums can bring to people is the knowledge that “you are never alone” she added.

Demontigny felt similarly. “I do have several family members who have passed on, and I feel like they’re all up there together,” she said. “They were always people who rooted for me when they were here, and it’s nice to think that they are still keeping an eye on me.”

She added that some of the advice she got from the reading, such as the importance of keeping a “level head,” was advice that she would keep in mind going forward in 2024.

“It’s going to linger in my mind,” she said of her reading. “She said make sure that you address things with a level head, push forward but with a level head: I think I needed to hear that.”

“It also gave me perspective going forward. It was advice from the universe. This is what your spirits are telling you. They are here with you. It kind of was reassuring.”
