Select Board looks to sell town-owned properties in Lakeville

Jul 23, 2024

LAKEVILLE — Looking for land in Lakeville? Thirteen parcels ranging from less than an acre to 14 acres currently owned by the town may be up for sale following a potential Fall Town Meeting vote.

A list of properties that could go up for auction have been identified by Town Tax Collector Erika Correia and Inspectional Services Director Nate Darling and were discussed by the Select Board at its Monday, July 22 meeting.

The town doesn’t pay taxes on its own properties, explained Lakeville Select Board Chair Lorraine Carboni. By auctioning off these properties, the town will be able to generate tax revenue from businesses, homeowners or anyone else who settles on the parcels.

The parcels, which are owned by the tax collector, will need to be transferred to the Select Board through a Town Meeting vote before they can be auctioned off or put up to bid, said Carboni.

The thirteen parcels in question are scattered throughout Lakeville and were selected from a long list of town-owned lands previously presented to the Select Board.

Three parcels that were deemed the “most beneficial” to go up for auction by Correia and Darling are located on Central Street, South Street and Walnut Street.

What parcels would be auctioned and whether this will appear on the Town Meeting warrant has not been decided.
