Revolutionary era comes to life at Peirce Homestead
MIDDLEBORO -- The historic Peter H. Peirce Homestead, 132 North Main St., will host Celebrating a Legacy of Liberty from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22 to honor the 250th anniversary of America’s freedom.
The free, family-friendly event invites the public to step back in time and experience the spirit, sacrifice, and resilience of the American Revolution through immersive living history.
The afternoon features live military reenactments by the 13th Continental Regiment. Members of the regiment will demonstrate daily Continental Army life, including the process of bullet making, the utility of the traditional powder horn, and live musket firing demonstrations.
Attendees can explore authentic Revolutionary War artifacts and memorabilia to discover what life was like for the men and women of the colonial era. Interactive exhibits will showcase the food that sustained soldiers on the battlefield, the standard gear carried by militia members, and how colonial families utilized native plants for nutrition and medicine.
The event will also bring early American commerce and culture to life with period music and live demonstrations from traditional artisans. Skilled creators, including a blacksmith, potter, candle maker, tinsmith, chocolatier, spinners, rug braiders, weavers, and calligraphers, will demonstrate the essential trades that supported the colonies.
Children and families can participate directly through hands-on colonial games and traditional crafts.
