Pumpkins help pump up crowd at Harvest Festival
LAKEVILLE — A record crowd fell for fall at the fourth annual Harvest Festival at Elliot Farm Sunday, Oct. 13.
“It’s just a fun event,’’ said Dee Elliot, who owns the farm with her brother, Ken Elliot. “There’s a lot to do.’’
Features included a petting zoo, beer and wine from Harper Lane Brewery in Middleboro, food trucks, face-painting and music by the area rock trio Arlo.
Artists and vendors joined the festivities this year, offering a variety of items and services including home decor, bath and body products and psychic readings.
Parking for the popular event stretched nearly to Assawompset Elementary School.
This was the largest crowd ever for the festival, Dee Elliot reported. “It’s really family-focused and family-friendly,’’ she said. People also appreciate that proceeds go to feeding families in need, she said.
Joslyn Lucy Richard, 8, reached as far as she could to pat the goats at the petting zoo. She said she liked “the pumpkins and the candy’’ most of all.
The pumpkin patch, where visitors could select their own Halloween staple, proved popular.
Alby Cook hoisted a substantial pumpkin over his shoulder. His son, Jayze Cook, 7, urged him to pick this particular pumpkin because “it’s big.’’
Erin Dunlap smiled as she watched her daughter Macy, 2, dancing to the music of Arlo. “I love fall stuff,’’ she said as she explained what brought her out to the festival.
And getting out makes a difference, she said, so she seeks out fun activities. “You can’t keep a toddler in the house’’ for too long, she noted with a laugh.
