Outdoor water use restrictions begin May 1 in Middleboro
MIDDLEBORO -- Middleboro has adopted a mandatory water use restriction effective May 1 and running through Sept. 30.
Non-essential outdoor watering hours are restricted to before 9 a.m. and after 5 p.m.
Specific restrictions are based on street address.
Even-numbered addresses may engage in non-essential outdoor water use Tuesdays and Fridays only.
Odd-numbered addresses may participate in non-essential outdoor water use Mondays and Thursdays only.
No non-essential outdoor water use is allowed Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday.
Non-essential outdoor water use includes:
Irrigation of lawns via sprinklers or automatic irrigation systems;
Washing vehicles, except at a commercial car wash or if needed for driver safety;
Washing exteriors of building surfaces, parking lots, driveways or sidewalks, except as needed to apply surface treatments such as paint, preservatives, stucco, pavement or cement.
The following uses may be allowed when mandatory restrictions are in place:
Irrigation to establish a new lawn and new plantings during May and September.
Irrigation of public parks and recreational facilities through automatic sprinklers outside the mandated hours;
Irrigation of lawns, gardens, flowers and ornamental plants by using a hand-held hose.
Any person violating these regulations will receive a warning for a first offense, a $100 fine for the second violation and $250 fine for a third and any subsequent violations.
