Middleboro Little League hosted its opening day Saturday April 11 complete with a parade, opening ceremonies, games, raffles and picture day.
The annual tradition, held at the Field of Dreams, brings the entire town together.
“At least it feels like it,’’ said Brett Pizzi. His son Julian Pizzi is “aging out’’ of the program after this season and the family came out to cheer him on.
Tony Giannini’s son Trevor is playing for the Mosquito Squad.
As the father of five, Giannini is no stranger to the Little League festivities.
Playing on the league provides great experiences for the kids, he said. They learn to work together and bond as a team, he explained.
Little League gives youngsters “good structure. It shows them the proper fundamentals and they get some fresh air and exercise and develop a passion for the sport.’’
Alan Lovstad has coached players on league teams. Opening day unites all the teams and their players, he said.
“It’s a great thing for all the kids to come together.’’
