Oct 18, 2022

MIDDLEBORO — Retiring Town Manager Robert Nunes will continue on the job on an interim basis until James McGrail takes over the position Nov. 21.

Nunes will receive $150 per hour with no other benefits or compensation, according to information provided by the Select Board at their Oct. 17 meeting.

The interim position will begin Oct. 24. Nunes had announced that he would retire effective Oct. 21.

Nunes will work no more than 25 hours per week “to assure the effective and efficient operation of the town manager’s office,’’ according to information provided by the Select Board at their Oct. 17 meeting.

He can only exceed those 25 hours in an emergency situation, as approved by select board chair Mark Germain.

Nunes will work until McGrail takes over. Nunes’ last day will be Nov. 18, with McGrail taking over Nov. 21, Nunes said.

McGrail, now the Marion Town Administrator, was unanimously selected Oct. 11 as Middleboro’s new Town Manager. Nunes, who worked as Town Manager for nearly eight years, previously served as the Mayor of Taunton.
