New Lakeville location gives art studio a sense of 'permanence'
LAKEVILLE — Lakeville artists of all ages and abilities now have a new space to hone their craft.
The Heart in Art, an art studio whose mission is to make the arts accessible to people of all mental and physical abilities, opened the doors at its new location at 54 Main St. Lakeville on Friday, Aug. 23.
Heart in Art staff said they are especially excited about the new location because it will allow them to work out of one space.
The studio has previously operated out of multiple spaces in Middleboro, such as its 60 Union St. location at the Church of Our Savior.
The new studio “gives us an element of permanence that we haven’t had in multiple shared spaces,” said Heart in Art Operations Manager Jennifer Paulin.
Heart in Art Founder Melissa Oddi-Morrison said the larger new space allows “us to do more than one thing at once,” and for “more space to put supplies.”
It will also give the studio the ability to offer more classes during the day, Paulin said.
The new location features an art room, a larger room for yoga, exercise and music classes, as well as private rooms for students that need one-on-one instruction, Oddi-Morrison said.
Though Oddi-Morrison noted she’s “just happy” to finally be in the new space, getting to this point has been “a labor of love,” she admitted.
New offerings at the Lakeville space will include yoga classes, crocheting and knitting instruction and a pound fitness class, in which participants pound drumsticks in a full-body cardio and strength session, staff said.
Marie Dicroce hopes attending art classes at the new studio will serve as a social outlet for her thirty-four-year-old son Nicholas Mariani, who is excited to take cooking classes— something the studio also offers— and to learn to play the drums.
“Nick is a social butterfly and he doesn’t get enough opportunity to be with his peers,” she noted.
